DIRECTIONS

The following information will hopefully be helpful to you in traveling to Penticton from some distance away. These directions are only to show how many different routes you can take and you should consult a good map or GPS to confirm all the directions.

From the West

From Vancouver take the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1) to Hope and then you have two choices.

1 Take the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) and Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C). At the Okanagan Highway (Hwy 97) Turn right (South) and continue to Penticton (Approx 43 Kms (27 Miles). When you enter Penticton and after you cross the canal continue 1.0Kms (0.6 Miles) turn left at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre onto Railway St, 1 block, bear left onto Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on the left.
This route is 420 Kms long and takes approximately 5 hrs and 15 minutes. Or

2 Take the Hope Princeton Highway (Hwy3 / 3B) to Princeton. At Princeton continue on Hwy 3 to Keremeos. At Keremos turn left on Hwy 3A to Penticton. If you miss Hwy 3A continue into Keremeos 1.75 Kms (1 Mile) and take Hwy 3B They join a short distance up the road. Continue on Hwy 3A until the “T” at Highway 97. Turn left and continue to Penticton,
Hwy 97 turns left after the Canal and when it turns away from the Canal the road become Railway St as well. Do not turn left when the Highway turns at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre instead continue straight on to Power St. Continue along Power St. until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.
The Route is 395 Kms long and takes approximately 6 hrs but it does not have the long uphill sections of the Coquihalla Highway.

From the East

1 When you are travelling west on the Trans Canada Highway as you past through Sicamous turn left (South) on to Hwy 97A towards Kelowna. Follow 97A through Enderby and Armstrong. Join Hwy 97 before Vernon. Continue through Vernon and Kelowna, over the Bridge and continue to Penticton. When you enter Penticton and after you cross the canal continue 1.0Kms (0.6 Miles) turn left at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre onto Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.

2 If you want to take a more southerly route join Hwy 3 anywhere between Medicine Hat and the Crownest Pass and follow it all the way to Osoyoos then turn right on to Hwy 97 and continue on Hwy 97 (North) past Oliver and Okanagan Falls. Continue to Penticton on Hwy 97 North. Hwy 97 turns left after the Canal and when it turns away from the Canal the road become Railway St as well. Do not turn left when the Highway turns at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre instead continue straight on to Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.

Note
Salmo-Creston Skyway is a steep ascent on Hwy 3 but can be avoided by going north from Creston on Hwy 3A and 3B and taking the ferry from Kootenay Bay across to Balfour, on Hwy 3A and 3B into Nelson and west to Castlegar to rejoin Hwy 3 for the Paulsen Pass.

From the North

After travelling south on Hwy 97 turn left at Cache Creek on to the Trans Canada Hwy (1)/(Hwy97) towards Kamloops. Or if travelling on the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 5 and Hwy16) turn left on to the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1) at Kamloops. After passing Kamloops continue on the Trans Canada Hwy (1) towards Salmon Arm and Revelstoke for Approx 25 Kms (15 Miles) Turn right on to Hwy 97 at Monte Creek towards Vernon. Pass through Vernon and Kelowna, over the Bridge and continue to Penticton. When you enter Penticton and after you cross the canal continue 1.0Kms (0.6 Miles) turn Left at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre onto Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.

From the South

There are 3 main routes and lots of choices on each one.

1 If you want to visit Vancouver on the way follow Interstate 5 to the USA/Canada boarder then continue on to Vancouver on Hwy 99. Then follow the directions “From the West “ above.

2 If you want to bypass Vancouver turn off Interstate 5 at the Bellingham Exit and turn right (North) on to Meridian St/ Guide Meridian Road (Hwy 539). Continue up Hwy 539 until you pass Lynden and then turn Right (East) on East Badger Road (Hwy 546) towards Sumas. Cross the USA/Canada Border at Sumas/Huntingdon. Continue on Hwy 11 until you turn right on to the Trans Canada Hwy (1) heading towards Hope. Then follow the directions “From the West “ above.

3 For a less “freeway” trip consider turning off Interstate 5 at the Oregon/Washington boarder and travel up the north side of the Columbia Gorge on Hwy 14. (You will remember this as the site of the Hood River Mini Meet West). At Maryhill turn left (north) on to Hwy 97 towards Yakima. Continue through Yakima and head towards Ellensburg. At Ellensburg turn Right (East) on to Hwy 90 At George turn Left (North onto Hwy 281 to Quincy. At the “T” at Quincy turn left (west) on to Hwy 28 towards East Wenatchee. Pass through East Wenatchee and when Hwy 2 joins the Hwy becomes Hwy 97and Hwy 2. Follow Hwy 97 North past Pateros, Brewester, Okanogan, Omak, Riverside, Tonasket and Oroville. Just past Oroville cross the USA/Canada Border and continue on Hwy 97 (North) Past Osoyoos, Oliver and Okanagan Falls. Continue to Penticton on Hwy 97 North. Hwy 97 turns left after the Canal and when it turns away from the Canal the road become Railway St as well. Do not turn left when the Highway turns at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre instead continue straight on to Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.

From the Southeast

If you are travelling through Spokane there are 2 routes

1 At Spokane turn right (north) on to Hwy 395 towards Colville and Kettle Falls and cross the Canada/US border. After the border continue on Hwy 395 until you meet Hwy 3 and turn left towards Grand Forks and follow it all the way to Osoyoos then turn right on to Hwy 97 and continue on Hwy 97 (North) past Oliver and Okanagan Falls. Continue to Penticton on Hwy 97 North. Hwy 97 turns left after the Canal and when it turns away from the Canal the road become Railway St as well. Do not turn left when the Highway turns at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre instead continue straight on to Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left

2 Pass through Spokane and turn right (west) on Hwy 2 towards Wilbur and Grand Coulee. At Grand Coulee Take Hwy 174 (west) Hwy 174 joins Hwy 17. Take Hwy 17 (west) until it joins Hwy 97. Follow Hwy 97 North past Okanogan, Omak, Riverside, Tonasket and Oroville. Just past Oroville cross the USA/Canada Border and continue on Hwy 97 (North) Past Osoyoos, Oliver and Okanagan Falls. Continue to Penticton on Hwy 97 North. Hwy 97 turns left after the Canal and when it turns away from the Canal the road become Railway St as well. Do not turn left when the Highway turns at the Penticton Visitor’s Centre instead continue straight on to Power St. Continue along Power St until you reach a “T” at the Lake, turn right and the Penticton Lakeside Resort will be on your left.
